It is New Year’s Day today and the weather is very cold. After visiting a friend in the hospital, I come into a small restaurant to have lunch because I am cold and hungry. When I am having lunch, I find an old woman buy only a small bag of French fries.
She sits there alone and eats the French fries. After eating a half, she stands up and goes to ask the salesgirl* how much she will pay for a cup of drink. The salesgirl says the prices of the drink are different, so it will be up to* which drink she buys.
After hearing this, the woman walks to the drinks and looks at the prices on the wall. She wants to choose one of them, but turned back with nothing on the hand. So I go to the cashier and give the money for the drink. Then I take the drink to her table and say Happy New Year to her.
After a few minutes, when I am going to leave the restaurant, I meet the woman at the gate of the restaurant again. She waits for me at the gate. She smiles at me and says thanks to me.
The drink is not expensive at all, but it makes me warm. And it also makes the old woman know that there are a lot of friendly people around her.
