The Taj Mahal in India is one of the seven wonders in the world. It is also one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. Over three hundred years ago, the king called Shan Jehan built the Taj Mahal as a tomb for his wife. He did not care about the time or money. He brought together workmen from all Asia. It took 20,000 men over 18 years to complete it.

The building stands on a platform of red sandstone. A large dome（弯顶）rises from the centre of the building. Around this large dome there are four small domes. There is an open corridor just inside the outer walls. The bodies of Shan Jehan and his wife lie in a tomb below the room. In front of the entrance to the building, there is a long, narrow pool. Looking in this, you can see all the beauty of the Taj Mahal. Many people think the Taj Mahal is the most beautiful at sunset. The building is built of fine white marble with many other coloured marble inside. The marble picks up the colour of the sunset and the building and its reflection（反射）in the pool looks like pink jewels（宝石）.
